Colorado summer camp

Parents,
Give Your Child this Gift …

Choosing Colorado summer camps or trips abroad for your children is an important decision. In a world filled with extraordinary opportunities for young people, Cheley is unique. As a mission driven business, Cheley has been owned and operated by the same family since 1921 and is historically respected as one of the best sleepaway summer camps in the United States. Jeff Cheley and Brooke Cheley Klebe, the fourth generation of the Cheley family, are parents themselves. They realize that one of our main goals as parents is to raise our children to be thriving adults. Unlike trips abroad, summer school or summer jobs, summer camp is about setting aside the time to live in a nurturing and caring community. This supportive camp community allows campers to experience what it is like to live as their “best self.” Isn’t that a valuable gift for your child?

"Our daughter came home more confident, independent and self-assured. We couldn’t have asked for a more positive, grounding experience for a girl about to enter adolescence."
Rebecca, Cheley parent

Cheley campers develop nurturing, trusting relationships with counselors who serve as positive role models in their job as youth development professionals. We believe young people learn best by doing. In the Rocky Mountains, surrounded by friends and supported by caring counselors, campers indulge in boundless, exuberant fun. Frank Cheley originated Fun Plus® in 1921, and the concept has continued at Cheley for decades. Fun Plus conveys the value we place on having fun while learning how to live life fully and know and understand ourselves more completely. As one parent commented about his child, “he just seems more comfortable in his own skin at camp.” Again, what a wonderful gift!

Cheley opens every term with the development of a Code of Living in each camp unit. The Code of Living is a compilation of traits, suggested by the campers in each unit, that the campers strive to uphold. These traits are interwoven throughout the term. Traits like responsibility, integrity, trust, and empathy commonly make the list. The campers refer back to the Code of Living as they hold each other to these strong ideals. We often hear that campers hang their Code of Living on their wall when they return home.

Each session concludes with beautiful banquets and final campfires. All campers participate in honoring the lessons they have learned and the friendships they have formed. We take the time required to build a community of thoughtful citizens who look out for one another, laugh with each other and, in the process, grow together.
