The Camp Store at Cheley is more than just a shop. It’s a place where campers pick up essentials, enjoy snacks, and practice real-life skills like budgeting and decision-making. Whether your camper is excited about the treats or needs a last-minute supply, here’s everything you need to know to help them get the most out of their Camp Store experience!
How Does the Camp Store Wallet Work?
To make things easy, campers don’t need to carry cash or a credit card. Instead, they have a “Camp Store Wallet”—an account that keeps track of their spending.
Here’s how it works: During enrollment, parents set a spending limit by filling out a Store Form. This limit isn’t a charge or deposit; it simply tells us how much your camper can spend. You will only be charged at the end of camp for the actual amount your camper spends, not for the spending limit you decide.
Campers can check their balance anytime by asking the Camp Store Manager. If your camper’s balance reaches $25, we’ll notify you in case you want to raise their limit. And if you ever need to check or adjust the balance, just let us know—we’re here to help!
What’s Available at the Camp Store?
The Camp Store is open each morning for about 45 minutes so campers can grab any last-minute items they need for that day’s program—like water bottles, sunscreen, flashlights, or other essentials. In the afternoon, it reopens for an hour and a half after program and rest hour for “treats” and general shopping. During this time, campers can browse Cheley-branded clothing and gear, personal care items, supplies, fun mementos, and more.
“Treats” is a daily highlight where campers gather, relax, and enjoy a snack with friends. Campers in Lower Chipeta, Lower Ski Hi, and Quarter B-4 units may purchase one treat per day (priced at $3.00 or less), while campers in other units may purchase up to two. This daily routine helps campers build independence by making thoughtful choices within a set structure.

Learning Responsibility Through Every Purchase
The Camp Store offers more than just treats and supplies; it’s an opportunity for campers to practice budgeting. Each purchase encourages them to think about what’s important to them and make thoughtful choices. We recommend chatting with your camper before camp to set a plan for their spending and discuss prioritizing essentials and treats they’ll truly enjoy.
Visiting the Camp Store as a Family
At the end of each term on Final Saturday, families are invited to visit the Camp Store at Land O’Peaks or Trail’s End. It’s a great time to pick up last-minute mementos or browse Cheley gear to take home, with convenient payment options like credit cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay, and Afterpay.
Wrapping It Up
We know that the Camp Store Wallet can seem a little confusing, especially if one parent sets it up months before camp. Remember, you’re not paying the limit you set in advance—just the amount your camper actually spends. If you’re ever unsure about your camper’s balance, reach out anytime—we’re happy to confirm or adjust as needed.
The Camp Store is more than a snack stop. It’s a place where friends gather, campers learn, and small life lessons happen every day. We’re here to support you and your camper, making sure their Camp Store experience is as smooth, fun, and memorable as possible—just like that friend around the campfire, sharing stories, laughter, and the occasional treat.
