It is with deep sorrow and profound respect that we remember Bo Winslow, a remarkable man whose life touched countless hearts. Bo’s journey with Cheley began in 1985, marking the beginning of a legacy filled with dedication, passion, and unyielding commitment.
Bo was much more than a fixture of camp; he was the soul of our horse program and the guardian of our facilities. His expertise in managing the horses and overseeing our infrastructure was unmatched. For over two decades, Bo and his wife, Lauri, created a home in the ranch house, raising their family and enriching the lives of everyone around them. His influence extended beyond the stables, leaving an indelible mark on every corner of camp life.
In the early 1990s, Bo took on additional responsibilities, managing the water and wastewater plants and, later, facilities management as he learned from the esteemed Jimmy Wilson. His years at Cheley were filled with memorable moments—guiding youth, nurturing traditions, and spearheading Burn Camp and Colts. Bo cherished these experiences, recognizing their profound impact on his life and the lives of others.
After several sabbaticals during which Bo explored new paths and gathered fresh perspectives, he returned to Cheley in 2021. His comeback was not just a return to a familiar place but a renewal of his commitment to preserving our rich history and traditions. As our Director of Estes Operations, Bo was pivotal in shaping strategic ideas and fostering community relations while embracing his newfound knowledge and vigor.
Bo’s life extended beyond his professional contributions. His love for his family was a central part of who he was. He was a devoted husband to his beloved wife, Lauri, and a proud father to Justin and Nicole. His role as a grandfather to his cherished grandchildren brought him immense joy. Whether he was playing with his grandkids, working in his woodshop, or traveling with Lauri, Bo’s life was full of love and purpose.
In his final moments, surrounded by his loved ones, Bo found peace. His passing on August 29, 2024, leaves a void that will be felt deeply by all who knew him. His battle with Multiple Sclerosis, compounded by recent health struggles, was a testament to his resilience and bravery. Despite the challenges, Bo remained a beacon of strength and kindness, embodying the spirit of Cheley.
The outpouring of support and the heartfelt memories shared by friends and colleagues speak volumes about the kind of person Bo was. Known for his kindness, leadership, and ability to inspire those around him, Bo touched countless lives—from the young campers he guided to the staff he mentored. Many remember Bo for his unwavering support, infectious enthusiasm, and ability to make everyone feel valued and loved.
Reflecting on Bo’s life reminds us of his incredible contributions and the legacy he leaves behind. From his dedication to the horse program and facilities to his leadership throughout camp and the community, Bo’s spirit will forever be woven into the fabric of Cheley. His influence reached far beyond Cheley’s grounds, inspiring all those who had the privilege of working alongside him.
Let us celebrate his life by remembering the joy he brought to so many and the lessons he imparted. Whether through a ride on a horse, a fond recollection, or a moment of quiet reflection, let us honor Bo’s legacy and the profound difference he made in our lives.
To Lauri, Justin, Nicole, and their families, our hearts are with you. Bo, your spirit will forever ride with us, and your memory will continue to guide us. Thank you for everything. Rest in peace, Bo.
He will always be my one and only Bofriend. Thank you for choosing me to be your wife, Bo.
