Our Units

Our 27-day program is divided into eight distinct units thoughtfully organized by age and designed to foster close-knit communities. While each unit enjoys its own activities, campfires, and traditions, the structure ensures a smaller camp feel and personalized attention within the larger Cheley community. Each unit, comprising 57 to 70 campers and supported by 13 to 16 staff members, has its own well-maintained lodge, boathouse, and living spaces, providing a home base for campers to connect, grow, and experience the renowned Cheley Experience.

27-Day Programs

Land O'Peaks

Ages 9-11

Our Lower units are a time for our youngest campers to enjoy camp life and learn the fundamentals of a wide range of activities. For many, it’s their first time at summer camp so we provide campers with the attention they need. It’s a chance for campers to develop a Code of Living and live in a caring community.

Land O'Peaks

Ages 12-13

Our Middle units cater to both first-time campers and campers returning from our Lower units. You’ll have many opportunities to test your wings while enjoying the pure fun of camp life and time with one another. Campers develop a Code of Living and participate in activities that offer adventure and a definite sense of accomplishment.

Ages 14-17

Campers in our Senior units test their grit, create lifelong friendships, and develop a strong set of values. With the Code of Living as the cornerstone of this endeavor, our eldest campers are challenged appropriately and given leadership opportunities that transform teens into young, happy adults. During their final summer at camp, campers may join our Camper in Leadership Training program.

Trail’s End

Ages 12-17

The age range at the Trail’s Ends provides a mature and nurturing family feel – with all of the activities we have to offer. Our TE campers develop their Code of Living in a setting modeled after the pioneer days of the rugged West. During their final summer at camp, campers may join our Camper in Leadership Training program.

Quarter B-4

The camp you select for your child will hopefully be the camp they call a second home for many years to come, which is why we offer Quarter B-4, our four-night introduction program. For children wanting a taste of the Cheley Experience, QB4 gives campers a window into Cheley and allows them to play and build independence. QB4 takes place once a summer and is split up into two units.

Family Camp

Families with children aged six and older can experience our Family Camp for five days of quality family time. Sleeping accommodations are covered wagons, which will sleep a family of four, but arrangements for larger families can easily be made. Families can choose to spend the day together riding horses or might head to Rocky Mountain National Park for a day hike while the children stay in camp and participate in crafts or riflery.

No Ordinary Camps

Burn Camp is a residential program designed to support the rehabilitative and psychosocial needs of children who have sustained a burn injury. Founded in 1983, Burn Camp is operated by No Ordinary Camps, a nonprofit organization, and offered in partnership with Cheley. The summer session is the organization’s flagship weeklong program, creating a supportive, intentional camp experience where campers connect with other survivors, build confidence, and are encouraged to challenge themselves and discover what’s possible.

Joint Military Teen Leadership Summit

Teen Summit is a weeklong leadership and adventure program for military-connected teens ages 13–18 from Active Duty, Guard, Reserve, and retired families. Hosted at Cheley for over 15 years, the program combines high-adventure outdoor experiences with intentional leadership development and community-building. Throughout the week, teens explore the Rocky Mountains through hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, climbing, and creative skill-building activities, while connecting with peers from military families around the world and growing in confidence, resilience, and leadership. Teen Summit is made possible through a national partnership supported by the Department of Defense and Purdue University.

Discovery

Each fall, we host Discovery, overnight field trips that serve public and private schools for their outdoor education programming. Discovery is designed to take students out of the city and into the great outdoors where amazing things happen daily. These retreats are specifically designed to meet the goals of each school and can be a variety of program lengths depending on the chosen high-adventure activities. Social-emotional learning, community building, and school spirit are essential to Discovery!
