Nestled in the heart of Colorado’s Mountain Wonderland, Cheley’s Family Camp gives you a front-row seat to the joy, growth, and fun that make our summers so special. In 1985, after years of requests from campers-turned-parents and families who wanted to share the Cheley Experience with loved ones, we launched Family Camp—and it’s been a favorite ever since.

Family Camp takes place each August, right after our regular summer season ends, at our Trail’s End Ranch location near Glen Haven, just a few miles from Estes Park. The setting is rustic and beautiful, with covered wagons for sleeping and a welcoming lodge where families gather. Whether you’re trying a new activity together or singing campfire songs at the end of the day, it’s an experience that sticks with you.

How It Works

Family Camp is designed for families with children ages six and older. Each family stays in its own covered wagon, furnished with four twin beds arranged in two rows with a walkway between them. Wagons also have drawers and space to hang clothes, so you can unpack and make the space your own, but they do not have electricity. For families of more than four, an additional family member can share a bed or sleep in a tent beside the wagon.

Shared bathhouse facilities are just a short walk away. We have one shared bathhouse with toilet stalls, sinks, and showers. We set separate shower times for each gender and use tarps to provide more privacy around the showers. The showers do not have individual changing areas, and the toilet stalls and sinks remain available to everyone during shower times. Trail’s End Ranch features:

• A stunning wood lodge with a stone fireplace and dining hall
• A string of 30 horses
• Archery and riflery ranges
• A bustling craft shop
• A babbling stream that winds through camp

Every day, you can choose the activities that interest your family. Saddle up for a trail ride, head into Rocky Mountain National Park for a hike, or let the kids enjoy crafts, riflery, or a counselor-led activity while you explore. Parents and children can participate together or choose different activities; some activities have minimum ages. Kids Camp is offered for children eight and under.

Families sign up for activities a day or two at a time, leaving room to try something new or enjoy a slower day. Parents and guardians supervise their children outside of staff-led activities. Staff supervise children during Kids Camp and can provide supervision during rest hour when adults are away on an all-day activity.

Evenings bring everyone back together for a hearty family-style dinner and time to connect with other families. It’s a chance to share stories from the day, enjoy camp traditions, and make memories together.
