Centennial Celebration Weekend
As much of what was familiar has been upended, and there are still countless unknowns, we wanted to reach out to you. While we have told our summer camp families that our commitment is unchanged, if it’s realistic to have camp, camp will happen, we have come to the difficult conclusion that we will need to postpone the Centennial Celebration Weekend to September 3rd to the 6th of 2021. This has been a very difficult decision and one we make with a heavy heart.
Our hope from the beginning was to provide a memorable weekend that would stick with you for many years and rekindle your Cheley Spirit ‘til we meet again. We refrained from calling it a reunion because we wanted the feel of it to be a true celebration: To celebrate the campers that have become their best selves, the families that have partnered with us over the years, and both the year-round and seasonal staff that have poured their heart and soul into creating the Cheley Experience. And, of course, to celebrate Frank Cheley, for his original dream and vision.
Camp has always been a place for deep and meaningful relationships. When we moved the Saturday night Banquet to the Event Center in late November, we envisioned more people having the opportunity to join us, more space to spread out and catch up with camp friends, and a more comfortable experience for everyone. We did not envision fear being a present emotion, our cherished campers from those early years unable to come, or a weekend requiring any kind of distancing or limited hugs.
The Cheley Spirit will not waver. We will still celebrate a century of having provided a summer experience for tens of thousands of children and doing so through wars, economic depressions, and natural disasters all the while keeping a family business thriving through four generations. We truly owe Frank a debt of gratitude. He left us a wonderful gift that we’ve been entrusted to care for – a responsibility not taken lightly. And we want to celebrate his gift when the time is right.
At this time, we will rollover your registration to 2021 to secure your spot. This fall we will send out communication with the option to cancel. As of now, we are moving forward with our life’s work of providing a place for our campers to play in the mountains, to gain independence, to be unplugged, and to form meaningful friendships. Please keep Cheley in your thoughts as we navigate this uncertain time. Our thoughts continue to be with each one of you. We will be together soon to celebrate one hundred years.
