Horseback Riding

Colts

Half Day, Full Day

During our Colts program, campers experience the process of handling and nurturing inexperienced horses as well as working with them hands-on. Colts are young male horses, typically younger than four-years-old. Campers learn the essential training procedures for starting colts with a goal of someday adding them to our riding string. Campers also receive many colt-starting tips, like that while rewarding, starting a colt is challenging work and requires patience: Some days they are ready for a breakthrough and other days they can be stubborn or difficult. The Colts Coordinator demonstrates the basics of leading and haltering, lunging, desensitizing techniques, saddling, groundwork, and more, while campers have the opportunity to assist with and practice these skills.
